WHO WE ARE

In the summer of 1971, the Missions Council at Crestwood Baptist Church in Des Moines began to consider beginning a mission church in West Des Moines. The first Sunday worship of the new mission was held November 1971, and the church was formally constituted as the West Des Moines Baptist Church in June 1973. Three years later, the name changed to Ashworth Road Baptist Church to more effectively minister to members of surrounding communities.

 

We are people of God appropriately related to God through Christ, to one another through community, and to the world as we display God’s glory and blessings. As people of God, we exist to develop and release spiritual leaders who will be the presence of Christ in our community and around the world.

 

Through engaging, equipping, and empowering each other, we experience spiritual transformation and reach our full potential in Christ as we believe the gospel, belong to one another, and become the incarnational presence of Christ.

 

We are motivated to pursue the glory of God and the joy of one another. Our core value is love as is expressed to God in worship and one another in nurturing relationships.

 

Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ alone does not make a group of believers a church. What makes us a church and not an evangelistic organization is that we are a community. We have attenders and visitors, but we also have members. People can belong to our church and they can know they are connected and cared for.

 

A believer may join Ashworth Road in one of the following ways:

 

By Letter:  If you are a Baptist and have been baptized in another Baptist church and wish to join our church and cooperate with the program the church projects, then the church may accept you as a member on a transfer of your membership by letter. We will arrange for that transfer.

 

By Baptism:  If you profess faith in Jesus Christ, and desire to pattern your life after Christ’s teachings, then the church may receive you as a candidate for baptism.

 

By Statement of Faith:  A Baptist may join our church by statement when it is not possible for various reasons to get a letter of certification from a former church. If you are a member of another denomination, membership does not transfer from one denomination to another. You may join by statement that you have professed faith in Christ and have experienced believers baptism as a testimony of trusting Christ.

 

Ashworth Road Baptist Church offers Discovery Class on a monthly basis. Discovery Class is for those who are interested in becoming a member of Ashworth Road. The class is designed to answer questions about the church, its mission, its ministry, and its culture.
