We had a wonderful time at our 2nd Serve Des Moines day on February 7! Many spent a Saturday morning preparing warm breakfast casseroles for the Salvation Army’s ministry to hungry and homeless individuals in our city, some ] went to Oakridge with Impact Youth Ministry to play games with and care for the kids who live there, and others helped sort clothing and put out merchandise for the new Hope Ministries thrift store. Whatever was done, THANK YOU for being the presence of Christ in our city!
The beautiful part about serving is that the blessing and joy is mutual—for those serving and being served! Isaiah 58 talks about this:
“If you do away with the yoke of oppression,
with the pointing finger and malicious talk,
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
The Lord will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.”
Our welfare is tied up in the welfare of others. As we follow Jesus and meet the needs of people around us, our needs are met as well! Now isn’t that a compelling invitation to serve? Don’t miss out!
Mark your calendars for the next Serve Des Moines: Saturday, May 9th 8am to noon.
